Teletherapy*, also referred to as distance or virtual therapy, occurs when a client and their therapist are in different locations and engage in the therapeutic process using an electronic or virtual platform.
While virtual services are not suited for every person, there are many benefits to teletherapy. Sessions are easy and convenient to fit into your schedule and can be completed on your phone or computer as long as you have access to secure, private internet. While we have come far in reducing the stigma around mental health challenges, some people still feel uncomfortable and worry about being seen in the waiting room while accessing in-person services. Virtual therapy services eliminate the risk of running into anyone you know.
Virtual services are great for those who do not want to worry about commute times, or for those who live in remote areas where there are a limited number of therapists available. Virtual services are also beneficial for those with mobility challenges, limited transportation options, or chronic fatigue. Those with chronic pain also benefit from virtual services, as sessions can be completed in your own home where your tools for pain management are more easily accessible.
